WATER distribution concessionaire Syarikat Bekalan Air Sdn Bhd (Syabas) has still not finalised the legal and implementation aspects of offering the first 20 cubic meter of water free to households in Selangor.
Syabas executive chairman Tan Sri Rozali Ismail said the company was still waiting for directives from the federal government and the Selangor state government on the matter.
The free water plan is scheduled to start on June 1, less than three weeks away.
Rozali, who is also Puncak Niaga Holdings Bhd executive chairman, declined to say whether the plan could be implemented by the June 1 deadline.

“The matter is still being discussed. I am not commenting on whether we can meet the June 1 deadline or not since nothing is certain at this point of time,'' he said.
Rozali said this during the launch of the 03/2008 Squadron Training Programme held at Kampung Bangi Tambahan in cooperation with Syabas.
When pressed for a specific date on when a decision would be reached, he said there were many factors to be considered and both the state and federal governments would be informed once everything was finalised.
“Anything is possible. It could be before or after June 1 but I am in no position to confirm. We have to consider the technical, legal and financial aspects of such a move.
“ It is also an issue that the state and federal governments have to resolve,'' he said.
Rozali said an announcement would be made once the matter has been finalised.
