SHAH ALAM (May 02, 2008): By Sajahan Abdul Waheed
Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) wants former Balkis president Datin Seri Zaharah Kechik to return to the Selangor Government the RM9.9 million which was transferred from the association's account to that of the Federal Association of Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers (Bakti), shortly after Selangor fell to the Pakatan Rakyat.
PKR supreme council member Badrul Hisham Shahrin said it was unethical for Zahrah, the wife of former Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo, to do so and her action could amount to breach of trust. Balkis is the Bahasa acronym for the Association of Wives of State Assemblymen and Members of Parliament in Selangor.
"Her action is morally wrong. She has no right to do so," Badrul Hisham told reporters after accompaning PKR Selangor's information head Mohd Asharuddin Abdul Aziz to submit a memorandum and 15 documents relating to the matter to the Selangor Anti-Corruption Agency this afternoon.
Badrul Hisham said they were informed by the agency officer that with the memorandum submitted, the agency would now be able to open a file on the case.
Mond Nasharuddin said the party hoped the ACA would carry out investigations immediately.
"We also want the ACA to investigate whether the involvement of a Court of Appeal Judge as Bakti's legal advisor on matters pertaining to the transfer of funds from Balkis as to whether it went against the code of ethics."
Bar Council president Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan had earlier said it was inappropriate and wholly unacceptable for any member of the judiciary to act as legal advisor or in any legal capacity for any body or person while holding the office of a judge and more so if the body or person is associated with a State or Federal Government or a political party.
