Selangor still waiting for ROS reply on Balkis’ status - The Star

KUALA SELANGOR: May 4, 2008

The Selangor government is still waiting for a reply from the Registrar of Societies (ROS) on the status of the Wives of Selangor Assemblymen and MPs Welfare and Charity Organisation (Balkis) before deciding on the next course of action.

Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, the political secretary to Mentri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, clarified that Selangor PKR had lodged a report on Balkis with the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) on Friday on its own initiative.

He said the state PKR felt that the transfer of RM9.9mil from the Balkis account should be investigated and they decided on their own to lodge a report with the ACA.

“On the state government’s side we are consulting our lawyers on the options that are open to us and we want to see the ROS reply before deciding on our next step,” he told reporters after handing out co-curriculum awards at SRK Agama Pasang here yesterday.

The state government would also only start looking at other possible wrongdoing by Balkis after it receives the response from the ROS as it was important to get all the facts first.

Meanwhile Selangor PKR Youth vice-chief Khairul Anwar Ahmad Zainuddin said the disclosure of the Balkis issue was just the beginning and the state Youth wing would be making public more such “irregularities”.
