Give evidence of corrupt council officers, urges Selangor - The Star

KLANG: May 6, 2008 By CHRISTINA TAN

Hawkers and traders have been urged to provide information to the state government if they have evidence of corrupt council enforcement officers.

Selangor local government, research and study committee chairman Ronnie Liu said there were a number of enforcement officers with “bad attitudes” that needed to be corrected.

“If hawkers or traders are bullied by enforcement officers please inform me and let me solve the matter.

“I cannot deny that enforcement officers from the local government have a high tendency to infer bribery and corruption, but not many victims have come forward to supply us the evidence,” he said.

Liu said this on Monday night at the 53rd anniversary celebration of the Federation of Hawkers and Petty Traders Associations of Malaysia, which was attended by more than 1,000 members.

At the dinner, Liu also apologised to hawkers and traders who were affected by the “ill-treatment” of enforcement officers.

While the Government was doing its bit to fight corruption, Liu said all traders and hawkers had to do their part by adhering to the rules and regulations.
